Update on the rescues that took place yesterday, 6 February 2012:

At 14:10 on Victoria Road, Hout Bay - Emergency Medical Personnel assisted on the evacuation of residents from retirement villages in the Hout Bay area after a fire broke out on the mountain. Residents were escorted to a safe area on the premises with medical personnel at hand if treatment was required. All residents were safely escorted back to their homes and did not require any further treatment.

Platteklip Gorge Hiking Path, Table Mountain - Emergency Medical Services were alerted that the request for medical assistance on Platteklip Gorge was required for one party of five hikers from Belgium (and not France as earlier communicated). EMS Rescuers located a woman in her late fifties who suffered heat stroke and exhaustion and was coded critical by EMS paramedics. The AMS Rescue helicopter was activated. An EMS Rescue Paramedic was hoisted down to the location of the patient, she was then hauled to the Kloof Neck parking area and packaged into a stretcher and transported to Christian Barnard Hospital by EMS land ambulance.
