Media Alert: Crime Fighter Award and NHW Accreditation Ceremony

27 November 2018

Tomorrow, 28 November 2018, Minister of Community Safety, Alan Winde, will hand over an award to a heroic crime fighter in the Western Cape. At the same event, newly accredited Neighbourhood Watch structures (NHW) will also receive their formal certificates from the Western Cape Department of Community Safety.

Minister Winde will deliver the keynote address.

The handover of an award to a crime fighter is a new initiative in the Department, to recognise the efforts by individuals and groups in their pursuit of creating a #SaferWesternCape. Sergeant Van Noie, who is a detective in the SAPS and stationed at Manenberg Police station, will be the recipient of this inaugural award.

Sergeant Van Noie was the investigating officer in a Robbery case where a female member of the Emergency Medical Staff (EMS) was robbed at gunpoint on 5 June 2017 just after midnight at Heideveld whilst returning to the ambulance after attending to an emergency situation.

Having gone through their training, 61 NHW’s from 30 areas, will receive their accreditation certificates and starter kits. This will assist in ensuring that they have the tools to safeguard their communities and also continue contributing to creating a #SaferWesternCape.

There will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.

ALL MEDIA ARE INVITED TO ATTEND.
