Minister Anroux Marais signs agreement to establish House of Hope

On Tuesday, 2 October 2018, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, signed a co-operative agreement that will enable the establishment of a new education and training centre at the Hout Bay museum.

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) , through its museum service, facilitated the agreement between the department, the Hout Bay museum and the Denis Goldberg Legacy Foundation Trust. Denis Goldberg is one of only two surviving Rivionia trialists. He has committed himself to establishing the House of Hope, which will serve as an Arts and Culture education and training centre to empower and uplift the local community.

Minister Marais expressed her excitement at this partnership. “We as a government department are passionate about bringing arts and culture to our local communities. We want to offer the youth of our communities access to opportunities to express and grow their talents. This is something we cannot do alone and we need partnerships such as these to be able to offer our communities a better future. It is an honour for us to join forces with Denis Goldberg and to work with his Foundation to create this facility.” she said.

The department will now move forward to plan and build the new centre in the coming months.
