Media alert: MEC Schafer to plant fruit trees at Luleka Primary

1 August 2018

Tomorrow, Thursday 2nd August 2018, MEC Schafer will be planting fruit trees at Luleka Primary School to supplement the food produced for the feeding scheme. The food garden at the school augments the feeding scheme supplies and contributes to the feeding of over 1 200 learners per day.

Poverty and under-nutrition affect large percentages of our population. And as a result, many learners arrive at school hungry. It is a proven fact that you cannot teach a hungry child.  The Western Cape Government is therefore committed to ensuring that our poorer learners continue to receive not just one, but two nutritious meals at school every day.

As part of Mandela Month celebrations, MEC Schafer donated funds to two Khayelitsha schools to supplement the food produced in their food gardens for the school feeding scheme. Luleka Primary School is one of these beneficiaries.

All media are invited to attend.

Date:     Thursday 2nd August
Time:     07h45
Venue:  Luleka Primary School, Ncumo Road, Harari Ext, Khayelitsha, 7784

There will be opportunities for photographs and interviews.
