Consider a career in traffic law enforcement

• Are you driven to make the Western Cape’s roads safer for all road users?
• Are you not older than 35?
• Are you willing to work in one of the province’s smaller traffic centres?
• Are you willing to go the extra mile, working shifts, on weekends, and on public holidays?

If your answer to all of these questions is yes and you do not have a criminal record, are in possession of at least a Code B licence, with at least a matric or equivalent, and are physically fit and able to do strenuous exercises, you may want to apply for one of the vacant trainee traffic officer posts at the Western Cape Provincial Traffic Services centres in Vredendal, Vredenburg, Mossel Bay, Knysna, Laingsburg or Oudtshoorn.

At least one year of driving experience will be an advantage.

Successful applicants will be eligible to do the 12-month traffic officer’s training course at Gene Louw Traffic College (GLTC) in Brackenfell.  Candidates will be expected to arrange their own accommodation while doing the course. Trainees will learn the theoretical aspects of being a traffic officer in the lecture room, and the practical aspects through deployment in the field.

Those who successfully complete the course will graduate with a Further Education and Training (FET) Certificate in Road Traffic Law Enforcement.

The Department of Transport and Public Works, through its Provincial Traffic Services provide a 24/7 traffic law enforcement service. After they have successfully completed their training, appointed traffic officers will be expected to work shifts, including public holidays and Sundays, and be willing to work additional hours, if required.
