Media Alert: Minister Plato to attend Winelands Neighbourhood Watch engagement

22 June 2018

Tomorrow, Saturday 23 June 2018, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, will attend a special engagement hosted by the Department of Community Safety for all the accredited Neighbourhood Watches (NHWs) in the Winelands Cluster.

The department will engage more than 120 people from 23 accredited NHWs in the cluster - including communities in Paarl, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Cloetesville, Jamestown, Wellington and Mbekweni – on proposals around funding models for NHWs and regulations pertaining to the effective functioning of NHWs in communities.

Neighbourhood Watches will also have the opportunity to engage with Municipal representatives and to receive feedback from the South African Police Service on crime trends for the area. All of which are important in our united efforts against crime and to help build safer communities, Better Together.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility and Minister Plato will encourage all present to continue playing their part in making our communities safer, to constantly extend a hand of support to safety partners and to expand our whole of society approach and safety footprint in our communities:

“The willingness of active residents, such as every Neighbourhood Watch member, to assist us in creating safer environments in our communities are appreciated, celebrated and necessary in our ongoing attempts to support the police in both crime fighting and crime prevention activities.”

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
