MINISTER ANROUX MARAIS CONGRATULATES DR MARLENE LE ROUX ON QUEEN’S POINT OF LIGHT AWARD

Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais officially welcomes Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s recognition of Dr. Marlene Le Roux as the 5th Commonwealth Point of Light. The recognition is in honour of her exceptional voluntary service promoting disability rights in South Africa.

Minister Marais congratulates Dr Marlene Le Roux on this prestigious accolade and said, “Dr Marlene Le Roux is truly deserving of this high honour as she has dedicated her life to the empowerment and upliftment of society, especially in promoting disability rights. She has selflessly drawn on her own experiences of living with Polio to accelerate progress in the inclusivity of those living with disabilities in society. In her capacity as the CEO of the Artscape Theatre Centre, Dr Le Roux has and continues to make significant strides in transforming the diversity showcased on its stages. For many years, with great passion and inspirational enthusiasm, Dr Le Roux has ardently cast the spotlight on the civil and political will needed to create full access and equitable opportunities for all people with disabilities as well as their families. For this, I congratulate Dr Marlene Le Roux once more and wish her well in all her future endeavours”.

The Point of Light awards recognise outstanding volunteers, people whose service is making a difference in their communities and whose story can inspire others to creative innovative solutions to social challenges in their own communities and beyond.

Each Commonwealth Point of Light will receive a personalised certificate signed by Her Majesty the Queen as Head of the Commonwealth.

Dr Marlene Le Roux’s award will be presented today at The High Commissioner’s Residence in Cape Town during the annual Eve of Parliament reception by High Commissioner to South Africa, Nigel Casey, MVO.
