Delft Pensioners To Become Homeowners

8 December 2017

Western Cape Human Settlements Minister, Bonginkosi Madikizela will today, Friday 08 December 2017, hand over title deeds to 55 Delft residents.

Among the recipients will be over 80-year old pensioners, Mr and Mrs Christian, from Roosendaal, Delft.  Of the 55 title deeds to be handed to Delft residents today, 22 will be allocated to pensioner couples.

The title deed hand overs form part of the Department’s Enhanced Extended Discount Benefit Scheme (EEDBS) programme. The programme was designed for tenants renting government property since prior to 1994 and provides them with the opportunity to own the properties they have been renting. The initiative aims to improve the lives of residents by providing security of tenure to their homes.

To date, over 4500 title deeds have been handed over to beneficiaries of Delft by Minister Madikizela. The Western Cape Department of Human Settlements has spent an amount of R1.8 million on handing over title deeds.  The Department has also put processes in place to, along with municipalities, fast-track the handing over of pre-1994 government housing stock.
