Swartberg Pass open to traffic

16 November 2017

From Friday, 17 November 2017, traffic will once again be allowed to use the Swartberg Pass (R328 in the Central Karoo), but under certain conditions. Repair work is continuing, and stop/go controls will be in place at times.

In April this year, a flash flood washed away the section between the entrance on the Prince Albert side and Tweede Water. This R10 million project is expected to have been completed in March 2018.

The Department of Transport and Public Works would like to thank residents and visitors for their patience while essential repairs have been under way. Motorists are advised to exercise caution during the construction period.

The Swartberg Pass Action Group established by Minister of Transport and Public Works Donald Grant in Prince Albert convenes monthly meetings to keep interested parties informed about progress on this project.
