Saying Goodbye

31 October 2017

Western Cape Provincial Traffic Services said goodbye to four members with between 32 and 44 years’ service at a ceremony in Cape Town on 24 October 2017.

James America served for 32 years, most of which was spent in radio control. He was affectionately known as “the voice of radio control”. Officers from as far as Beaufort West would call in and receive his assistance.

Keith Holmes served for 41 years. His last years of service were in the position of Principal Provincial Inspector where he was responsible for managing various team supervisors. He previously managed one of the weighbridges in the City of Cape Town area.

Johan Basson began working at the Vredendal Traffic Centre and went on to serve for 33 years. When he started, the Centre Manager asked him, “What is your vision (goal) in this profession?” to which he replied, “I want to sit in your seat (position) sir”. He went on to achieve this goal when he became Centre Manager of Vredendal Provincial Traffic Services. He was well respected in his community and was known for always being willing to assist.

Susette Basson, spouse of Johan Basson, was unfortunately unable to attend the farewell ceremony. She served as an administrator for 44 years and was known for her pride in the task, and for keeping everything in meticulous order.

Provincial Traffic Services thanked all four for all their hard work and years of service to the profession. Some were so dedicated to the work that the office had to call in on the radio to remind them they should have been off duty for an hour already. That is dedication to the work. They were not just doing a job.

As these dedicated officers retire, two others have been promoted. Vigie Chetty and Nathan Arendse have recently taken up their posts as Regional Directors. Provincial Traffic Services wishes them all the best as they take up key leadership positions and make the Western Cape’s roads safer.

Thank you and saying goodbye words from Susette Basson.

After 33 & 44 years of service ……..

How do you say goodbye to friends and colleagues, who shared your tears and laughter for so long?

How do you close a door, so familiar, behind you…

All the Glory to GOD

We want to take the opportunity to thank you for your support, understanding and good working relationships we had.   Thank you for your friendly gestures, smiles, jokes, and laughter.

Through ups and downs we all have learned from each other, we wish you well in your career may God Bless you and your families.

Remember whatever you want; Trust in the Lord and in due time you will receive.   For the Lord promised all of us a prosperous life, a life in abundance.

Ps 138:8   The Lord will fulfill His Purpose for my life
