DCAS wins award for Year Beyond Programme

23 October 2017

On 17 October 2017, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) won an award for the Year Beyond Programme from the National School of Government at the Public Sector Trainers’ Forum (PSTF) awards. The Programme won in the category ''Excellence in youth development training".

The aim of the PSTF awards is to recognise practitioners and Departmental units or Departments that have worked hard to support capacity building of government officials to contribute towards the achievement of national objectives.

DCAS partners with the Departments of the Premier and Education (as well as various Non-Governmental Organisations), on the Year Beyond Programme which is part of the After-school programme. The programme provides volunteer tutors (aged 18 – 25) as peer educators after normal school hours. These volunteers offer literacy, numeracy and homework support. Ammaarah Kamish from the Department of the Premier was in attendance to receive the award on behalf of DCAS.

This accolade highlights the important work that DCAS is doing to provide opportunities to youth to achieve their goals by providing them with academic support systems. DCAS will continue to build its After-school programme to ensure that all youth can reach their full potential.
