The Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais has officially opened four new library service points in the province since the start of the 2017 financial year.
The Ashbury, Citrusdal and Hermon Libraries as well as the Berghoff Mini Library became part of the largest South African library network presented by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS). The annual departmental allocation towards library staffing, operational costs and library infrastructure in the province encourages a culture of reading, lifelong learning and access to information. DCAS remains committed to providing 385 library service points in the Western Cape by 2020.
“Libraries store the energy that ignites the imagination. They open windows to the world for us and inspire us to explore, achieve and contribute to the improvement of our quality of life. Libraries change lives for the better,” said Minister Marais at the opening ceremonies.
In providing libraries, DCAS wants to encourage people of all ages to read. Let us create well-informed, literate communities BETTER TOGETHER.
