Around 30 000 people are expected to attend the SA Cheese Festival this weekend.
Organisers estimate 30 tonnes of cheese will be consumed at the three-day festival, which kicks off at Sandringham today (28 April 2017).
Alan Winde, Minister of Economic Opportunities, said the event showcased the province’s agri processing sector, a focus area under the Project Khulisa economic strategy.
“Residents can experience our high-quality produce, ranging from home-made sweets, teas and sauces to award-winning wines. The Western Cape‘s cuisine has earned an international reputation and the SA Cheese festival showcases our world-class offering.”
Minister Winde also invited residents to visit the Cape Made: Taste the Alternatives pavilion at the event. This exhibition is a partnership between the Western Cape Department of Agriculture and Agri-Expo, the organisers of the SA Cheese Festival. Chefs at the Cape Made Kitchen will also demonstrate recipes with unique ways to use cheese. A recipe book which features these innovative uses of cheese will be distributed at the event. The recipe book is a partnership between the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, the Private Hotel School, the Milk Producers’ Organisation and Agri-Expo.
Tickets for the 16th SA Cheese Festival are available at Computicket, Shoprite and Checkers at R160 per person per day. No tickets will be sold at the gates. Festival times: 10:00 - 18:00. Sandringham is located next to the N1, Stellenbosch turn-off (exit 39), between Cape Town and Paarl.
