Minister Marais highlighted the value of investing in talent identification and sport development and congratulated representatives of each federation in the district who complied with the criteria. Since the start of the 2017/18 financial year she has handed over more than R3 million in ceremonial cheques to the Central Karoo, Eden, Overberg and Cape Winelands.

The Chairperson of the Cape Town District Sport Council, Richard Buckley, concluded the ceremony and thanked Minister Marais and DCAS for making it possible for federations to assist and grow local sport.

The next cheque handover to sport federations is scheduled for 25 April 2017 in the West Coast.

DCAS supports sporting federations through funding across the province. It is important that communities support their local sports teams and encourage participation and growth. Let us grow our sporting talent -  BETTER TOGETHER.
