Minister Alan Winde to discuss tourism opportunities with local entrepreneurs

22 February 2017

Tomorrow (23 February 2017), Alan Winde, Minister of Economic Opportunities, will address tourism entrepreneurs from across the province on the state of the sector.

Minister Winde will discuss opportunities in the sector with the Western Cape Business Opportunities Forum (WECBOF).

Through the province’s Project Khulisa growth strategy, in which growing tourism in the Western Cape has been prioritised, the Western Cape Government is seeking to add up to 120 000 additional jobs in the sector.

“Tourism is one of the Western Cape’s fastest-growing sectors.  In the recent peak summer season, we saw an increase in visitor arrivals across the province.  I am also encouraged by significant private sector investment in tourism establishments.  Along with a focus on our Project Khulisa areas, we are also making it easier for businesses to operate in the Western Cape”, said Minister Winde.

WECBOF Chair, Colin Daries, said: “We encourage entrepreneurs to also look beyond those products and services which are only aimed at the tourist visiting on a holiday or for entertainment, but to also seek opportunities in industries such as construction, IT, access, and importantly, business tourism, to name a few. It also puts the challenge to entrepreneurs to come up with innovative products and services to ensure that they remain sustainable”, he said.
