DSD essential services to continue amid strike action

The Department of Social Development notes the one day national industrial action by social services professionals set to take place on Friday, 10 February by NEHAWU and other trade unions. Services at DSD local offices may be affected.

However, employees engaged in essential services may not participate in the strike action.

The following services have been declared essential:

  1.     Services provided by old age homes registered in terms of the National Welfare Act
  2.     Services  provided by Child and Youth Care Centres in terms of Section 196 of the Children’s Act of 2006
  3.     Care and support services at residential facilities for persons with disabilities
