MEDIA ALERT: Minister Plato host final cluster PNP consultation in Vredendal

27 October 2016

This weekend, Friday 28 October 2016 to Saturday 29 October 2016, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, and the Department of Community Safety will host the final Policing Needs and Priorities (PNP) determination consultation session.

This weekend’s consultation session, for the Vredendal policing cluster, is the last leg of the annual consultation in the province and brings to an end the first phase of process to determine the policing needs and priorities of the 16 police clusters which started in May this year.

Going forward, the Department will consolidate all the inputs, finalise the safety plans and reports for each individual cluster. Thereafter the provincial Policing Needs and Priorities report will be compiled and communicated to the National Minister of Police for his consideration, early next year.

A key feature of the 2016/17 PNP process includes the extensive training and workshopping with the Neighbourhood Watches and Community Policing Forums – the pulse of citizen-led safety interventions in our communities.

This weekend, the communities of Citrusdal, Clanwilliam, Doringbaai, Elandsbaai, Graafwater, Klawer, Lambertsbaai, Lutzville, Nuwerus, Van Rhynsdorp and Vredendal have the opportunity to determine their policing needs and priorities and to contribute to the Safety Plan, as a safety blueprint for communities which provides a shared ownership, responsibility and accountability to safety.

The consultative PNP engagements will include representatives of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Municipalities, Community Police Forums (CPFs), Community Safety Forums (CSF), non-governmental organisations, community based organisations, faith based organisations, Neighbourhood Watches (NHW), and other local safety stakeholders.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
