Minister Plato hosts Southern Cape PNP Consultation Sessions

11 July 2016

This week, Tuesday 12 July 2016 to Thursday 14 July 2016, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety will attend and host the Policing Needs and Priorities (PNP) determination consultation sessions for the Eden and Da Gamaskop policing clusters.

On Tuesday, 12 July 2016, Minister Plato will attend the second day of the Eden cluster PNP consultation session in George and officially handover a Safety Kiosk to the Bitou Municipality later the same afternoon in Plettenberg Bay. The Eden PNP consultation includes the communities of Calitzdorp, Conville, De Rust, Dysselsdorp, George, Knysna, Kwanokuthula, Ladismith, Oudtshoorn, Pacaltsdorp, Plettenberg Bay, Thembalethu and Uniondale

On Wednesday and Thursday, 13 July 2016 – 14 July 2016, Minister Plato will be hosting the Da Gamaskop cluster PNP consultation session in Mossel Bay. The Da Gamaskop PNP consultation includes the communities of Albertinia, Barrydale, Da Gamaskop, Goroot Brakrivier, Heidelberg, Kwanonqaba, Mossel Bay, Riversdale, Still Bay, Suurbraak and Swellendam.

The Southern Cape leg of the PNP consultation sessions bring about the halfway mark for the 2016 Policing Needs and Priorities process in the province which will see the Department of Community Safety holding public consultation sessions for each of the 16 police clusters between May and October this year.

The engagements will take the format of a two-day consultative workshop and will include representatives of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Municipalities, Community Police Forums (CPFs), Community Safety Forums (CSF), non-governmental organisations, community based organisations, faith based organisations, Neighbourhood Watches (NHW), and other local safety stakeholders.

A key feature of the 2016/17 PNP process will be the extensive training provided to Neighbourhood Watches and Community Policing Forums – the pulse of citizen-led safety interventions in our communities.

Additional information on the PNP process, schedule of consultation sessions and past reports are available here: https://www.westerncape.gov.za/general-publication/policing-needs-and-priorities-western-cape

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
