Temporary closure of Breede River Bridge

22 June 2016

The Breede River Bridge between Rawsonville and Worcester will be closed from 3pm on 24 June until 6pm on 26 June 2016 for necessary repairs and widening.
This forms part of a R227 million Department of Transport and Public Works roadworks project on the R43 between Worcester and Wyzersdrift. If everything goes according to plan, the entire project is expected to have been completed towards the end of 2017.

The 500 metre-long bridge is to be widened from 6 m to 11,4 metres. New concrete beams weighing 20 tons each will be transported from Cape Town. Further bridge closures will be necessary until all 82 beams have been put into place.
The Department is aware that roadworks frustrate motorists, and it takes all possible steps to minimise inconvenience. Once the project is completed, residents and visitors will greatly benefit from improved conditions on this road.
Signage indicating the closure dates will be erected in Worcester and Rawsonville. During this period, access to Nekkies Resort and Brandvlei Correctional Services will only be available from the Rawsonville side.
