Expect delays on R305 between Stilbaai and the N2

8 June 2016

Motorists travelling on R305 between Stilbaai and the N2 can expect delays when the first stop/go lane closure starts this week for construction work to take place. The second lane closure should start in two or three weeks’ time.

This R156 million Department of Transport and Public Works project to rehabilitate and make design improvements to this road started in January 2016 and is expected to be completed in March 2018.

It is a requirement of the contract that all personnel involved in the management of traffic must have been trained, and that that the traffic control operation is supervised by a suitably qualified and experienced person. Road users are encouraged to lodge any complaints directly with the contractor using the contact number provided on project signboards.

Ongoing development in Stilbaai and Jongensfontein has led to a considerable increase in traffic along the R305. Comprehensive rehabilitation of the road is therefore necessary, as well as design improvements to enhance traffic flow and road safety.

Ten percent of the total value of the contract will be spent on targeted enterprises, and a total of 30 000 person-days of work will be created for people from the Hessequa local municipal area.

The Department is aware that roadworks frustrate motorists, but takes all possible steps to minimise inconvenience. Once the project is completed, residents and visitors will greatly benefit from improved conditions on this road.
