Easter Bunny makes special visit to Red Cross Children’s Hospital
With Easter just around the corner, young patients at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital received an egg-stra special treat when the Easter Bunny arrived a few days early to make a special visit to the hospital on 24 March 2016.
Every year the Easter Bunny, accompanied by various special guests, visit the children to spread some joy and brighten their day by sharing a few hugs and surprising them with Easter treats.
The Easter goodies are donated to the hospital through various organisations via the Friends of the Children’s Hospital Association (FOCHA), a non-profit organisation based at the hospital that provides non-medical support to patients and their families at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
The event is one of two annual events held at the hospital that are designed to include hospitalised children in festivities they would ordinarily miss out on and to spread some joy at times which would be tough for children and their families to spend in hospital.
“There is nothing better than a good friend, except a good friend full of surprises. The best part of my Easter weekend is visiting my friends here at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital – nothing brings me more joy than being able to brighten their lives over the Easter period. The visit always sets the tone for the rest of my Easter,” said the Easter Bunny before hopping to the next ward.
“We are very grateful for all the Easter goodies received for the patients. This has put a smile on the children’s faces and made their stay in hospital over the Easter period slightly better by distracting them from the reason they are in hospital. Thank you to everyone who donated and thank you to the Friends of the Children’s Hospital Association for ensuring that the patients do not miss out on Easter celebrations,” said Angelique Jordaan, Communications Officer at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
