Last Prestigious Sports Awards For 2015 Recognizes Excelling Athletes

3 December 2015

The last of the district sports awards for 2015 ended on a high note when athletes and other significant role players in the City of Cape Town were honoured for their various achievements in sport.

The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) in partnership with the Western Province Sports Council hosted this prestigious event on Wednesday 2 December 2015 at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West.

A full grand ballroom, nominees, winners, organisers and all involved in the event ensured a successful sixth and final sports awards event for 2015. Twenty three different categories were honoured and praised for their significant contributions and achievements in sport during 2015.

Chief Director of Sport at DCAS, Advocate Lyndon Bouah, said that it is a privilege to share in the evening in honouring all who will be receiving awards. “We want to be an active Western Cape, but this year we also added ‘connected’ Western Cape. That is what we are here tonight ― connected. We are connected, because we all have to make sure that there is good governance in sport and ensure that we have good programmes that are effective”, he said.

Chairperson of the Western Province Sports Council, Richard Buckley, welcomed everyone in attendance and said, “It is an honour and privilege to be in the presence of such distinguished sportspersons, athletes, coaches and administrators.”

DCAS encourages excellence in sport. Let us continue to grow and become BETTER TOGETHER.
