Temporary Closure of Breede River Bridge

2 December 2015

The widening of the Breede River Bridge will form part of the work to be completed under the Department of Transport and Public Works' R227 million provincial roads contract currently underway on the R43 between Worcester and Wyzersdrift.

This construction will result in a number of temporary bridge closures planned to take place over weekends to reduce the impact on the travelling public. The estimated contract value is R227 million and the full project is expected to be completed towards the end of 2017.

The first closure is planned for the weekend of 4 to 6 December 2015 with the bridge closed from 15:00 on Friday afternoon 4 December 2015 until 18:00 on Sunday afternoon 6 December 2015. Further closures will take place during 2016 and 2017 until all structural work is complete. It is estimated that these closures will happen once or twice a month depending on the contractor’s progression.

Signage indicating the closure dates will be erected in Worcester and Rawsonville. During this period, access to Nekkies Resort and Brandvlei Correctional Services will only be available from Rawsonville.
