Central Karoo District Honours Athletes Of Great Calibre At Sports Awards

30 November 2015

A ten year old Sportswoman of the Year, a world renowned rugby referee and good music to keep guests entertained: these were some of the highlights that the Central Karoo had to offer at the past weekend’s sports awards in Beaufort West.

On Friday 27 November 2015 the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, in collaboration with the Central Karoo District Sports Council and Central Karoo District Municipality, hosted the Central Karoo Sports Awards in Beaufort West.

It was only the second time that the Central Karoo has organised and hosted such an event and organisers were praised for a successful event. They ensured that the athletic stars were honoured for their sporting achievements, their dedication and the way in which they inspire others.

Amanda Stripp from the Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation congratulated all the athletes on their various achievements, including those who were nominated and especially the winners. She encouraged them to keep up the good work. “Congratulations to all of you. Remember, you are the cream of the crop here in the Central Karoo and you need to go out and motivate others – your fellow athletes and your fellow players. Motivate them so that they too can sit in this hall next year. It is up to you here in the Central Karoo to make sure that stars are noticed and acknowledged”, she said.

DCAS, in collaboration with its partners in sport, support events such as this to ensure that athletes stay motivated and inspired to become BETTER TOGETHER.
