Metro Better Together Games End 2015 Games on a High Note

26 October 2015

New mascots, great team spirit, excitement and a good attitude – this was the winning recipe for the Metropole Better Together Games last week, the last games for the year.

Thousands of employees from  the Western Cape Government Metropole District gathered on Friday, 23 October 2015 at the Coetzenburg sports grounds in Stellenbosch. The Western Cape Government Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) in partnership with  Stellenbosch University, Old Mutual, Nedbank and Peninsula Beverages hosted the Metro Games.

The day commenced in the Danie Craven stadium with all teams being welcomed, the traditional march-past and DCAS introducing two new mascots that ensured a lot of fun, laughter, and enthusiasm. The participants were welcome to participate in various sports, and they did so with great confidence. Rugby, netball, volleyball, cricket, tug-of-war and indigenous games all ensured that participants and employees were given great entertainment.

Anroux Marais, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, welcomed everyone present for the day and described it as “our Olympic games”.

Western Cape Premier Helen Zille also congratulated all employees on making the Western Cape “the best run province in South Africa”. “This is traditionally a day we celebrate together. We demonstrate what we mean by our logo ‘Better Together’. It is the team that achieves the outcome, and so today is very appropriate for us to celebrate that and to say thank you to each other,” Premier Zille said.

The day successfully ended  with everyone being a part of the activities and cheering each other on.
