DCAS Invests in Arts and Culture Organisations

1 October 2015

On 1 October 2015 the Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, recognised the valuable contributions of all the Western Cape Arts and Culture organisations at the Head Office of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS).

The Head of DCAS, Brent Walters, welcomed the organisations, which included some of the beneficiaries of the 2015/16 departmental funding.  He stressed the value of these organisations and also thanked them for giving hope to young people.

DCAS Chief Director, Hannetjie Du Preez, thanked the organisations for keeping the arts alive in the Western Cape and also thanked other funding partners, agencies and municipalities.

DCAS Director, Jane Moleleki, said the demand of 270 applications for funding was unfortunately bigger than the government’s financial envelope.  Moleleki said, “The DCAS funding policy is used to guide the processing and allocations to successful applicants.” She explained the independent adjudication process that supports the allocation of funds.

Minister Marais announced that DCAS has allocated subsidies to 46 organisations that will benefit from the allocated R14.053 million. She encouraged organisations within the arts to support each other and described the positive effect of networking and partnerships.

DCAS provides opportunities to Arts and Culture organisations to apply for annual funding.  This investment strengthens the arts and culture in communities, Better Together.
