Date: 08 September 2016

Tomorrow 9 September, at 09:09am, the world will commemorate annual World Foetal Alcohol Syndrome Day. This is a day for creating awareness amongst expectant mothers to avoid the use of alcohol while pregnant. At 09:09am Bells will ring across the globe, in every time zone, to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking during pregnancy and the plight of individuals and families who struggle with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD).

FASD is fully preventable, but yet it continues to be a serious health issue in the Western Cape due to women continuing to consume alcohol during their pregnancy. Children with FASD have physical abnormalities, neurological problems, behavioural and learning problems.

Media is invited to attend.
