Media Alert: Premier to launch #eLearning Game Changer

7 September 2015

Tomorrow, Tuesday, 8 September 2015, Premier Helen Zille will officially launch the Western Cape Government’s #eLearning Game Changer.

eLearning is one of the eight Game Changers identified as key priority areas in the current term of office, announced in Premier Zille’s State of the Province Address earlier this year. eLearning is the first Game Changer to be launched.

Premier Zille, who is leading the eLearning Game Changer, will officially unveil a ground-breaking ePortal which will play a central role in eLearning.

The ePortal is a demand-driven tool which has the potential to fundamentally change the education landscape. It is the first portal of its kind as it focuses on the needs of the different stakeholders in education and not what education material government has provided.

This means learners, parents, teachers, and School Governing Body (SGB) members are able to choose the kind of product they can access from the portal, without being restricted to a single item. The portal will ensure that all items available for the different education stakeholders are aligned to the South African curriculum.

Premier Zille will outline how the portal works, how it can be accessed and who can contribute to it. She will also outline the Western Cape Government’s progress in broadband rollout and the establishment of smart classrooms across the Province.

Further presentations will be made by Education Minister, Debbie Schäfer and Mr Brian Schreuder, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) Deputy Director-General.
