Western Cape Celebrates Sporting Excellence

3 September 2015

On 3 September 2015 Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Anroux Marais recognised the achievements of notable Western Cape athletes at the Head Office of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS).

At this significant ceremony the sporting excellence of athletes of the following codes were recognised: cycling, judo, kickboxing, netball, sailing, wrestling, table tennis and the transplant sport association.

DCAS Chief Director Lyndon Bouah said the National Sport and Recreation Plan prescribes that we recognise our sportsmen and women who have brought honour and pride to the province. “This ceremony acknowledges the achievements of our athletes, and we look forward to seeing you at the District Sports Awards happening later this year in all six regions of the Western Cape”, said Bouah.

Minister Anroux Marais stressed the value of excellence and said:  “The athletes officially honoured here today have done us proud. They have held the Western Cape’s name high at national and international sporting events.   Your perseverance and focus have groomed you into significant role models to whom the youth can look up to.”

DCAS proudly celebrates the achievements of our athletes. Determination and focus prepares achievers to become role models. Let’s encourage excellence and inclusivity in sport to unify the nation BETTER TOGETHER.
