Dynamic Libraries at International Congress

17 August 2015

The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) is supporting the 2015 International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA)  World Library and Information Congress that is taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from 15–21 August 2015. The international congress themed Dynamic Libraries: Access, Development and Transformation hosts over 3 500 delegates from more than 120 countries across the world.

IFLA is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users across the world and the annual congress is the international flagship event for the library and information services sector. In addition to the congress a trade exhibition is also being held for the delegates, with exhibitors representing a number of local and international companies and libraries.

At the official opening of the congress exhibition the Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais welcomed the congress delegates to the province. “It’s important that we aim to improve and develop strong libraries as it contributes to building strong communities“ said Minister Marais.

“I hope you will take a page from our book here in Cape Town and Africa and learn from our best practices. The Western Cape has the largest library service network in South Africa, with over 361 service points” concluded Minister Marais.

The Congress aims to set the international agenda for library services and opens opportunities for partnerships and professional development.

Minister Marais encourages the Western Cape Library Services to showcase the esteemed status of our libraries and to learn from the international delegates’ librarianship.

Through supporting this prestigious event and partnerships, DCAS creates opportunities for Libraries in the Western Cape to grow, BETTER TOGETHER.
