Media Alert: Minister Marais welcomes IFLA Congress to the Western Cape

14 August 2015

Sunday, 17 August 2015, marks the official opening of the World Library and Information Congress, hosted this year in Cape Town by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA).

The Congress is held annually and is the international flagship event for the library and information services sector.

It is with great pleasure that the Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, welcomes over 3 500 participants from more than 120 countries to the Western Cape.

The Congress aims to set the international agenda for library services and opens opportunities for partnerships and professional development.

Minster Marais encourages the Western Cape Library Services to showcase the esteemed status of our libraries and to learn from the international delegates’ librarianship.

Minister Marais said, “I hope the international delegates will also ‘take a page from our book’ and learn from our best practice as the Western Cape runs the largest library service network in South Africa with 361 service points”.

The 2015 IFLA World Library and Information Congress takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 15 – 21 August, themed Dynamic Libraries: Access, Development and Transformation.
