Minister Plato attends final day of Khayelitsha cluster PNP workshop

14 August 2015

Tomorrow, Saturday 15 August 2015, Minister Plato, will attend the final day of the Provincial Policing Needs and Priorities (PNP) consultation workshop for the Khayelitsha police cluster.

For the first time since the PNPs were considered in the Western Cape, this year marks the start of a newly structured 2-day PNP consultation workshop which will see a practical and implementable safety plan drafted that is aligned to the safety needs and priorities within every community across the Western Cape.

The communities of Khayelitsha, Harare, Lingelethu-West, Lwandle, Macassar, Strand, Somerset West and Gordons Bay have the opportunity over the two days to contribute to the Safety Plan, as a safety blueprint for communities which provides a shared ownership, responsibility and accountability to safety.

Background Information: Between May and November 2015, the Department of Community Safety will bring together various stakeholders in the safety and security environment for each of the 16 police clusters for two-day consultative workshop and will include representatives of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Municipalities, Community Police Forums (CPFs), Community Safety Forums (CSF), non-governmental organisations, community based organisations, faith based organisations, Neighbourhood Watches (NHW), and other local safety stakeholders.

The aim of the workshops is to use the information generated by the 2014/15 PNP process – the findings and recommendations – together with the various Integrated Development Plan (IDP) engagements as a starting point for discussions at policing cluster and precinct level in drafting the area specific plan.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
