Media Alert: Olympic Day Exhibition Focuses on Women in Sport

6 August 2015

On Saturday, 8 August 2015 the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport will be hosting an Olympic Day Exhibition in Ladismith. This Exhibition forms part of the “Road to Rio” roadshow that started in Oudtshoorn in June this year.

The focus of the exhibition will be women’s participation in sport and the participants will all be girls aged between 13 and 16. The participants will have the opportunity to take part in various sporting events. They will also learn about participation by women in the Olympic Games, and conversations will be had about social issues that they experience in their everyday lives.

Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, is passionate about promoting participation and fairness for women in sport. “August is Women’s month and I firmly believe that we must support our young girls and women to develop their talents in sport. I am proud of programmes such as these, where my department ensures that young women are empowered and given the opportunity to speak about the challenges they face.” she said.

All media are invited to attend the exhibition.
