Zero Road Deaths in Western Cape

There were ZERO road deaths on Western Cape roads on 17 and 18 July 2015.

However, 24 people were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. They were arrested during the 914 screenings that were conducted.

The highest breath alcohol reading was recorded in Worcester at 1.07 mg/1 000ml, which was four times the legal limit of 0.24 mg/1 000 ml.

This weekend’s 21 alcohol blitz roadblocks across the Western Cape saw a total of 1 695 vehicles stopped as part of Provincial Traffic Services safety campaign.

Thirty one speeding incidents were recorded and 174 fines were issued for various traffic violations ranging from driver to vehicle fitness. The fines issued amounted to R200 100.

Highest Speeds Recorded

• 154 km/h in a 120 km/h zone on the N1 in the Beaufort West service area.

Two Other Arrests

• 1 x Grape sellers arrest (De-Doorns).
• 1 x resisting arrest (Caledon).
