New Sport Academy Provides Opportunities to Excel

16 July 2015

The new Cape Winelands Academy of Sport is expected to provide sportspeople of the district with a competitive edge. The academy was launched by the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) at Dal Josaphat Stadium in Paarl on 15 July 2015. The event was attended by officials from the Drakenstein Municipality and various sport federations.

The academy will identify talented sportspeople in the district and provide them with focused development opportunities, backed up by sport science and medical services. Targeted talent identification will provide athletes from disadvantaged communities with opportunities to rise to the top.

Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Anroux Marais said the district sport academy system is one of the key enablers for talented sportspeople to perform at their best. “Sport contributes to nation building. The Cape Winelands Sport Academy will support talent identification and skills development in the district.”

DCAS offers the people of the Western Cape opportunities to hone their sporting skills and grow their talent. Let us create an active and fit province, BETTER TOGETHER.
