DCAS Makes Boccia Happen at Knysna Oyster Festival

8 July 2015

A boccia tournament for disabled athletes, presented by the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), took place on 8 July 2015 at the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival. Ninety enthusiastic players participated on the day.

Boccia is similar to bowls but is played with soft leather balls. It is played in over 50 countries, is an official sport at the Paralympic Games, and is one of only three Paralympic sports with no Olympic equivalent.

Event organiser Picca de Bruin thanked DCAS and Pick n Pay for making the event possible. "It's such a nice feeling to know that you've brought so much happiness to people’s lives," she said.

DCAS supports disability sports. We encourage athletes to take part and to showcase their talents. Let us grow and develop our sporting talent BETTER TOGETHER.
