Western Cape Government mourns the death of John "Shoes" Moshoeu

22 April 2015

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport is deeply saddened to hear that former Bafana Bafana midfielder John "Shoes" Moshoeu has passed away after a brave battle with cancer.

“Shoes” made a huge contribution to sport in our country and proudly represented South Africa on 73 occasions. He was a role model for many young players and showed how you can achieve great heights through hard work and dedication. We need more sportspeople like him to show our young people how they can take responsibility for their own sporting career paths.

Head of Department Brent Walters said that this is indeed a big loss in the soccer world. “Shoes left a legacy behind for young people who are just starting their careers. It is important that we honour his legacy and not forget all that he has done for soccer in our country.” he said.

Our condolences go out to his family, friends and the soccer fraternity.
