Delft Beneficiaries Receive Title Deeds in Cape Town

17 February 2015

On Monday, 16 February 2015 expectant beneficiaries gathered at the Delft Main Civic Hall to welcome Western Cape Human Settlements Minister Madikizela to a ceremonial handover of the title deeds to their homes in Delft.

Of the 100 beneficiaries, 29 were pensioners and the remaining 71 were non-pensioners.

The Minister handed over the title deeds as part of Human Settlement’s strategic focus saying, “Transferring of these title deeds is part of the Department’s strategy to inculcate a sense of ownership and responsibility among housing beneficiaries”.

In his keynote address the Minister went on to say, “We continue in the quest of restoring dignity to our people. The aim is to not just to hand over houses but to ensure beneficiaries become legal home owners.  Receiving the title deed to your homes today makes you an official home owner and allows you to use your property as collateral to secure finance from banks for other assets such as the purchase of vehicles for example.”

“Please look after your homes and safeguard your title deeds to ensure you can pass it on to your children and generations to come,” Madikizela added.

The Department has over the years spent an amount of over R16 Million on the application of the EEDBS (Enhanced Extended Discount Benefit Scheme) in trying to transfer tittle deeds to beneficiaries.
