Twenty Seven Arrested For Drinking and Driving

From 5 to 7 December 2014, 26 alcohol blitz roadblocks across the Western Cape saw a total of 2 840 vehicles stopped as part of Provincial Traffic Services safety campaign.

A total of 1 714 drivers were screened for (being under suspicion of) driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in 27 arrests.

The highest breath alcohol reading was recorded in Knysna at 1.44 mg/1 000 ml, which was six times the legal limit of 0.24 mg/1  000 ml.

A total of 6 765 vehicles were screened for speeding of which 512 speeding offences were recorded.  Three hundred and four (304) fines were issued for various traffic violations ranging from driver to vehicle fitness to the amount of R 333 300.

Highest Speed Recorded

166 km/h in a 120 km/h zone on the N1 in the Brackenfell service area.
