On 28 and 29 November 2014, 25 alcohol blitz roadblocks across the Western Cape saw a total of 2 126 vehicles stopped as part of Provincial Traffic Services safety campaign.
A total of 1 158 drivers were screened for (being under suspicion of) driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in 26 arrests.
The highest breath alcohol reading was recorded in Oudtshoorn at 1.29 mg/1 000 ml, which was five times the legal limit of 0.24 mg/1 000 ml.
A total of 206 vehicles were screened for speeding of which 62 speeding offences were recorded. Two hundred and eighty one (281) fines were issued for various traffic violations ranging from driver to vehicle fitness to the amount of R 339 800.
