Minister Mbombo Congratulates Cape Town Ballet on 80th Birthday

14 November 2014

Media Statement by Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport

I am happy to celebrate the 80th birthday of ballet in Cape Town. This is a significant milestone and a unique opportunity to congratulate Prof Elizabeth Triegaardt, her predecessors and all the other relevant role players for many years of dedication to delivering world-class performances to the people of the Western Cape and its visitors.

The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport is proudly associated with this excellent art form and we have great admiration for the physical discipline and precision of the delicate steps and movements in classical dance to be role-models for the youth of our province and country.

I am looking forward to experience the community engagements of the City of Cape Town Ballet with their striking choreography, brilliant teamwork and hours of dedicated training towards excellence for the dancers.
