Dance and Drama for Aspiring Artists at Schoemanspoort Cultural Facility

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) is hosting a dance and drama development programme which commenced on 4 October 2014 at Schoemanspoort Cultural Facility in Oudsthoorn. The programme is hosted for 30 learners aged between 11 and12 from Buffelsdrift, Rodewal and Grootkraal Primary Schools in the local community.

The learners, who have a great interest in dance and drama, attend the workshops to further enhance their skills. The programme is facilitated by experienced Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) interns and an intern from  the Premier’s Advancement of Youth (PAY) initiative, as well as dancers from the local Yamazaki dance group from Oudsthoorn.

These workshops will take place every Saturday until 29 November and the learners will use the skills that they acquired at a Tribute to Mandela Showcase on 6 December 2014 at Schoemanspoort Cultural Facility.

Through this development programme DCAS is trying to take arts to the marginalised communities in the Schoemanspoort area and to ensure that Schoemanspoort becomes the hub of Arts and Culture in Oudtshoorn and surrounding areas. Learners are also given the opportunity to get exposure in the field of dance and drama. Let us nurture, develop and enhance arts and culture, BETTER TOGETHER.
