Media Alert: Volleyball Athletes Launch Their "Road to Rio"

4 June 2014
The Western Province Volleyball Union, with the support of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) and the Western Cape Sport Academy (WECSA), will be hosting the official launch of the Volleyball “Road to Rio” campaign on Wednesday, 4 June 2014.

Beach volleyball is a fast-growing sport, and had a large number of participants at the 2012 Olympic Games. DCAS and WECSA have provided support to volleyball athletes under WP Volleyball in order to promote and grow the sport.

Two of the federation's best achieving athletes are Grant Goldschmidt and Leo Williams. Following their participation in the London 2012 Olympic Games, these athletes have worked out a programme to increase their level of performance and to compete at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. This programme was named their “Road to Rio” campaign. The launch will form the official kick-start for their campaigning efforts and will aim to publicise the role of volleyball at the Rio 2016 Games.

Launch Details:
The launch will take place on, Wednesday 4 June 2014, at the Vodacom Golf Village at 19:00. All media are invited to attend. Photo and interview opportunities will be available with the athletes.
