Minister Plato to Deliver Mobile Safety Kiosk to Stellenbosch Municipality

29 May 2014

Tomorrow, Friday, 30 May 2014, Dan Plato, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, will hand over a mobile safety kiosk to the Stellenbosch Municipality.

The handover follows several meetings between the Department of Community Safety, SAPS, CPF Stellenbosch Municipality, Stellenbosch University, Boland College as well as various other community leaders and safety stakeholders in light of the increased number of hijackings and crime in the Stellenbosch area.

Minister Plato recently expressed his concern at the lack of arrests following a number of hijackings in Stellenbosch, at least one of which involved a gang rape. Following the number of hijackings and reports of another incident involving a stabbing, Minister Plato met with the relevant role-players, including students for urgent safety talks. The handover of the mobile safety kiosk is part of the outcomes of these talks.

The Community Safety Kiosk (mobile safety trailer) is an innovative which aims to increase the safety of communities by putting in place free, easily accessible and visible security services.

More details will be provided at the launch.
