Learn More About Our Farm Animals at Worcester Museum

27 May 2014

Since 6 May 2014, the Worcester Museum has been hosting its annual farm animals school programme. It is suitable for playgroups, pre-primary learners, learners from special needs schools and foundation phase learners.

What makes this particular museum experience different is that it takes place in the open air. Learners are taken around the museum farm yard where they can see various animals and learn about them. This is an eye-opening experience for children who may only have seen farm animals in pictures and on television.

Museum teacher Brenda Matsau says the content fits in with existing curricula and is adjusted according to the specific needs of various groups. She says giving children an opportunity to interact with live animals gives them a sense of respect and more appreciation of how important animals are to humans. Highlights include riding on a donkey’s back and travelling on a donkey cart.

Depending on the weather, there are normally two tours a day between 09:00 and 12:00. Booking is essential. The programme ends on 29 May 2014.
