Elections 2014: Thank You to SAPS for Maintaining Law and Order

9 May 2014

Media Release by Dan Plato, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety

Following the peaceful Election Day on Wednesday, 7 May 2014, I have sent a letter to the Western Cape Provincial Police Commissioner, General Arno Lamoer, expressing my thanks to the General, his senior management, and every police officer in the Western Cape for maintaining law and order and ensuring a mostly peaceful election in the Western Cape.

I am sure that many of the officers would have worked long hours, with some having to carry out their duties in challenging situations. I am thankful that the South African Police Service (SAPS) served the people of the Western Cape with such discipline and integrity.

I would also like to use the opportunity to thank all other role players who were involved in maintaining public safety on 7 May – the Cape Town Metro Police, Disaster Risk Management, EMS and all other safety ambassadors.
