Financial Boost for SWD Sport Federations

9 April 2014

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) boosted resources for talent development and sport participation in the South Western District (SWD) region by funding local federations at the region’s annual cheque handover ceremony in Knysna on 8 April 2014.

A total of R1 180 000 was allocated to 26 federations. This amount will be invested for development, transformation, administration and major sporting events between federations that applied for funds this year.

The Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Dr Ivan Meyer said good leadership, passion and administration are the backbone of healthy sports development in the region. He praised federations for the role they play, which contributes to making positive changes in the lives of young persons, using sport as a tool.

Minister Meyer also paid tribute to the SWD Sport Council, which was recently awarded the Western Cape Sports Council of the Year Award for the second consecutive year at the 2013/14 Provincial Sport Awards. The event highlighted the importance of keeping the sporting relationship between role players and the community alive.
