Take Your Seat at CHAN Matches in Cape Town

14 January 2014

Soccer supporters are encouraged to turn Cape Town yellow once again when Orange African Nations Championship (CHAN) matches resume in the Mother City on 15 and 16 January 2014.

On 11 January 2013, Capetonians provided strong support for South Africa’s exciting 3–1 victory over Mozambique at the Cape Town Stadium, while the match between Mali and Nigeria ended in a goalless draw. The four teams are all in Group A. In Group B matches at Athlone Stadium the following day, Zimbabwe and Morocco drew 0–0, while Uganda defeated Burkina Faso 2–1.

Put on your favourite team’s colours, take your vuvuzela and head down to the Cape Town Stadium on 15 January for the double header: South Africa vs Mali, followed by Nigeria vs Mozambique. The Fan Walk will be activated for the crowd to be able to walk from the city centre to the stadium. Supporters can catch all the action at Athlone Stadium on 16 January when Zimbabwe takes on Uganda, and Burkina Faso plays Morocco.

For the next month, Cape Town will serve as tournament headquarters and the South African team’s home base. In addition, the city will host all Group A and B matches as well as the quarter-final and semi-final matches. The final match and closing ceremony of Orange CHAN 2014 will take place at the Cape Town Stadium on 1 February 2014.

Only players who play their league football in African may participate in CHAN. Through this rule, the Confederation of African Football aims to provide international exposure for players still based on the continent and to provide a showcase for countries traditionally less visible on the international stage.

The Phase 2 Ticket Discount period is offering up to 15% discount for tickets available at Shoprite, Shoprite Checkers and Computicket. Free transport will be provided from various pick-up points in Cape Town. So take your seat and don’t miss the moment.
