Western Cape dam levels

10 August 2021

The latest average dam level for dams in the Western Cape is 77.3% (2020: 62.2%) while the latest average level for dams providing water to the City of Cape Town, is 97.75% (2020: 78.6%).

Anton Bredell, the minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning in the Western Cape, says the province’s dams continue to see weekly increases in dam levels.

“The volume of increases has dropped but we continue to see dam levels across the largest parts of the province increase. The area of greatest concern continues to be the Gouritz River catchment area with Calitzdorp dam at 41% and Gamka dam outside Beaufort-West at 34.7% this week.”

Bredell says the province continues to monitor the situation across the province.

“In addition we want to thank consumers for their support in driving down water use over the past few years. We continue to see responsible water use across the bulk of the province and we hope to see this continue.”
