Statement by Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell.
WC Dam levels show marginal increases
Western Cape dam levels continue to show only marginal increases.
The average dam level across the province as at 26 September was 61.4% full. In comparison, a year ago dam levels were on average 90.9% full.
Anton Bredell, the minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning in the Western Cape, says he remains concerned about the status of dam levels in the Western Cape.
“We have not yet had enough rain this year to be comfortable. All the major dams in the province, with the exception of the Clanwilliam dam, are still very far from ideal levels. These include the Voëlvlei dam (currently 69% full), the Theewaterskloof dam (53% full) and the Brandvlei dam (57%). The Clanwilliam dam is currently 100% full and is the one highlight”, says Bredell.
Bredell has called upon the public to continue to use water sparingly in order to enable the dam levels to recover as much as possible before the summer.
